Fantasy Flight Takes Children from St. Jude, Le Bonheur to “North Pole” Saturday
December 13, 2013
MEMPHIS, TN (December 13, 2013) – A very special “Fantasy Flight” will “depart” from Memphis International Airport on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Fantasy Flight will have some very special passengers--more than 100 children including patients from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital—who will take a trip to the “North Pole” to see Santa and enjoy holiday festivities. This marks the fifth consecutive year that the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) and Delta Air Lines have coordinated this event.
Children will arrive at the airport at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow to check in and receive special boarding passes. While they are boarding the plane, they’ll hear the music of a local children’s orchestra. At 2:30, they’ll depart on their trip to the North Pole on a plane provided by Delta that will taxi around the airfield before arriving at gate B30. The trip to the North Pole will include Christmas carols, games and a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” The plane will be met at the gate with water cannons courtesy of the Memphis Fire Department and Santa and his elves will greet the children. Festivities will include face painting, balloon artists, and puppies from Tails of Hope Dog Rescue. Other special guests will include Pouncer from the Memphis Grizzlies, Sheldon the Turtle from the Mississippi RiverKings and the Chick-Fil-A cow.
“This is such a fun holiday event, one that brings a lot of happiness to these special children” said Scott Brockman, Chief Operating Officer for the MSCAA. “The Fantasy Flight is a labor of love for MSCAA and Delta employees and everyone else involved, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”
