Memphis Airport Announces Photography Contest Winners

MEMPHIS, TN (April 2, 2014) – The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) has announced the winners of its “Arts in the Airport” high school photography contest. Late last year, the airport began accepting entries from high school students from Cordova, Millington and Whitehaven. The students were instructed to capture their interpretation of the theme “Memphis: Its Music, Sights and Sounds.” A total of 49 photos were submitted. The winners are as follows:

• 1st Place: Cierra Tisdale, Whitehaven High School, “Images of Memphis”
• 2nd Place: Servando Mireles, Millington High School, “Light of Memphis”
• 3rd Place: Mario Becerril, Cordova High School, “Downtown Memphis”

“This is a great way to showcase Memphis and also provide a forum for talented young local photographers,” said Scott Brockman, President and CEO of MSCAA. “We are proud to display these outstanding images of our great city.”

This year’s winning entries are featured on the Memphis International Airport’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/flymemphis.

The winners received prizes of $250, $150, and $100, respectively. All 49 entries are on display in three B Concourse locations: near Lenny’s Sub Shop at Gate B4, the rotunda area near the Elvis/Explore Memphis store, and the rotunda area near Hudson News. The photos will remain on display until March 31, 2015. The students also have the opportunity to sell their photographs.
